I hope everyone is staying quarantined and healthy during this unprecedented time.
I have created a Google Classroom page for our students. I have emailed you directions of how to access.
In case you need it:
Students can log in to the Wake County Portal and select Google Classroom. Choose join a class and enter the code: sde4gsq.
I will post a daily question for the kids. This will give them an opportunity to share their ideas, think critically about a situation, interact with others, and have fun!

Please remember to encourage your child to work on Dreambox, education galaxy, and read 20 minutes a day. Let's keep our skills consistent and maintained!

I hope everyone saw the emails sent regarding the beach field trip change and also the performance task (Wed., Mar. 11).
Please check your child's data binder this week! Thank you. Keep in mind, EOGs are quickly approaching. Reviewing assessments is the best way to study and practice skills taught.
Week of January 21: Our Math assessment will be on Wednesday. A review sheet will be sent home for homework Tuesday. We will have an economics vocabulary quiz on Friday. Students have a vocabulary sheet and matching card game to help them study.

Your child will have homework that requires technology daily this week. Please email me or write a note in your child's agenda if there is a problem with technology at home. Thanks!

Week of Jan. 6: Our NC Check In for Math will be on Wednesday, Jan. 8. The check in will cover math material from quarters 1 and 2. Your child is encouraged to take home his/her math notebook to review Monday and Tuesday evenings.
Our field trip to the NC Legislative Building and History Museum is on Thursday, Jan. 9. Please be sure to pay for your field trip as soon as possible. As of today (Sunday), we still need two volunteers for chaperones. In order to chaperone, you will need to have submitted your volunteer clearance for THIS school year. As discussed at Open House, volunteer clearances need to be completed each year and in advance of field trips. Thank you!
Report cards will be sent home on Friday.
Please mark your calendars that we do not have school on Monday, January 20 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Enjoy your day off!
Week of Dec. 16: Please remember our holiday party is Wednesday at 2:00! Thank you to everyone who signed up to help out!

Week of Dec. 8:
Happy Track In!
Please go to READvolution to claim your child's free hockey tickets (if your child read 800 minutes). I will send an email with additional directions if needed.
It is Bus Driver Appreciation! We will celebrate our bus drivers as a whole school on Dec. 19th. We are hoping to receive some small treats for the drivers. If you would like to donate some sweets, a treat, or a small gift please feel free to send it in before/on Dec. 18. Treats can be sent to the office labeled for the bus drivers. Please contact the main office if you have any quesitons.
Please remember that the Book Fair is currently going on in the media center. The hours are 8:30-4:00 daily. Literacy Night and Science Fair are this Tuesday! The book fair hours will be extended. Please check the MES website for more information regarding both events.
Our classroom spelling bee will be held on Tuesday. Word lists were sent home on track out day. ALL students received a copy of the word list.
Dec. 20 is the last day of school before the winter break.
Week of Nov. 18: Don't forget to keep reading for READvolution and logging in your books! The program runs until Dec. 1.
Week of Nov. 4: TRACK OUT is Friday! Please remember that students do not return to school until Dec. 9. Have a wonderful vacation.
We will have lunch in the classroom on Tuesday due to voting and again on Friday (due to PLT meetings during the day).
Please remember that our division test is on Wednesday.
Students should be logging their 20 minutes of reading into READvolution each night. READvolution can be accessed from the
WakeId portal for students. The READvolution challenge continues over our track out. Please encourage your child to read daily and log their reading! Let's win this competition!!!
Don't forget your child should be averaging 10-15 minutes daily on dreambox (also accessible through the WakeId portal).

Week of October 28: Update (Thursday): Reminder! Take 2 minutes and register your child online for the Kids Heart Challenge to help our class win! Our class has several students registered, and we need more to take the lead. We are having a blast learning about how to have a healthy and happy heart. It’s not too late to join the challenge. Go to heart.org/kidsheartchallenge or search “Kids Heart Challenge” in your app store to download the app and register. Join in the fun!
Please remember our Symphony field trip is on Tuesday. No payment is needed. Your child should dress appropriately. I have explained to the kids that they should wear what they would to a nice dinner or religious service (no work out clothes, jeans, tennis shoes preferably).
Thursday is Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day in celebration of the holiday. Please remember that masks and hand held objects (wands, swords, etc) are NOT permitted.
Track Out day is NEXT Friday, Nov. 8th!
Scholastic Book orders are due Wednesday, Oct. 30 if you are choosing to order. Please remember online orders only (info can be found on the website tab above).

We will have our End of Unit 1 Reading Assessment Thursday and Friday.

READvolution is under way! Our goal is to read 2020 books!! Please be sure to see the email sent home regarding logging in and logging books. More information will come home in this Tuesday's folder. Let's go Canes! Or should I say Mustangs?
Dining for Dollars is on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Biscuitville. Please see the MES website for details.
Disability Awareness Week begins on Wednesday!
The events are as follows:
Wednesday- Be A Team Player and Stand Up To Bullying (wear your favorite team gear)
Thursday- Caps for Kindness (wear a hat day)
Friday- MES Chooses Kindness (wear red and/or blue, or your MES gear)
We will have our Multiplication test on Thursday and the nutrition and exercise test on Wednesday.
MES spirit wear is available to order on the school website.
Please remember that students should be completing 45-60 minutes of dreambox PER WEEK! This is to be completed at both home and school. I try to assign it for homework one day per week and students also have the opportunity to work on it before the first bell. However, your child will also need time to complete dreambox at home. If there is a technology issue, please let me know. Student participation is monitored. Thank you!
Symphony Field Trip is on October 29. Your child will need to dress appropriately.
Week of Oct. 7: Tuesday, October 8 is Election Day. MES is a voting location. Due to this fact, parents are asked to not come to school for lunch with your child. Visitors will be discouraged to ensure the safety of the students.
Picture Day is Wednesday, Oct. 9! Every child will have a picture taken for the yearbook. Individual pictures are prepaid. Please return you orders (if purchasing) before/on Wednesday.

It is time to order your MES spirit wear! Order information went home in Monday's homework folder and is also located on the MES website. New styles/designs are available.
Week of Sept. 30:
Hello Quarter 2!
Please mark your calendars for the Math Check-Ins that will be on Thursday, October 3. This assessment covers everything from Quarter 1 in math!
We will also have a STEM presentation on Friday. Be sure to ask your child all about it.
Students should be using Dreambox for approximately 45-60 minutes a week! This is about 10-15 minutes a day. Please encourage your child to utilize this amazing program.
The next teacher workday (students will not have school) is on Oct. 21. Please plan accordingly.

Our quarter is quickly coming to an end! We will have our Addition/Subtraction and Science assessment on Friday.
Fall Festival is on Friday from 6-9! Please be sure to come out and support our school.
Reminder: We do not have school on Monday, Sept. 30th. This is the first teacher workday of our school year.
Quarter 2 will begin on October 1. Report cards are sent home on Friday, October 4.
